What is the BBSDP?
Black Business Supplier Development Programme
The
DTI’s BBSDP program provides black owned small business with a non-repayable
grant of up to R1million to assist
them in improving their competitiveness and sustainability. It provides a grant
(Gift) to a maximum of R800 000 for tools, machinery and equipment. This
is to be used as a (50%) deposit, which can be used to secure the additional
finance.
R200 000
is to be used for business development and training interventions to improve
the business’s corporate governance, management, marketing, productivity and
use of modern technology. This portion of the grant is on a 80 / 20% cost
sharing.
The
enterprise qualifies for 30% of its annual turnover.

What is the aim of the BBSDP?
The BBSDP outcomes are to improve the
sustainability of black-owned enterprises and thereby increase employment.
BBSDP
grants are available to any South African business which complies with a
stipulated set of requirements, the most significant being that the business
must be owned (at least 50.1%) and managed by previously disadvantaged South
Africans, that it must have been in business for a minimum of one year, and
that it must generate an annual turnover greater than R250 000 per annum.

turnover must be greater than R250 000 but less than R35 million

be registered at CIPRO as a CC or Pty(Ltd) or Co-operative or Trust.
Can NGO's and section 21 businesses apply for the grant?
NO. NGO's and section 21 businesses may not apply for the grant?
What do I need to do to submit an application?
To submit an application we require the following:-
Attach
proof of all the above requirements
Written
appointment of Graphit as your Network Facilitator
List
of managers, directors, shareholders and employees together with certified
copies of identity document (ID)
Certificate
of satisfaction signed by from the enterprise and service provider
Attach
quotations / proposals for the required interventions (3 Quotes required)
Service
provider evaluation report
Proof
that the service provider can supply
A
signed BBSDP application form
A
profile and Tax clearance of your chosen supplier.

What does the grant cover?

The
grant provides a 50% deposit (Maximum of R800 000) to assist with the
purchase of plant and machinery. (The grant = no pay back of this portion).
The
balance of the grant (Max of R200 000) can be used on the following:

I want to start a business. Can you help?
Unfortunatelythe BBSDP is to assist established businesses to acquire plant and machinery. It is the aim of the fund to grow existing businesses.
SEDA and GEP would be better options or as most small businesses do find the money required by talking to friends and family.
Do you provide start up capital?
No! The fund is to help existing businesses to grow and expand.
When can I get mu 50% of the R1 000 000
The grant does not give you or your business any money. All money or guarantees will be paid to banks or approved service providers as requested by you in your application.
My business is a start up. I have a funding problem.So can you fund me to buy machines or can i get a grant . My business is a toilet paper manufacturing. Funding is a problem. Can i get a grant to start working.
No we can't fund startup businesses. Please see the qualifing criteria
We are currently running a restuarant and has been for the past 14 months. This we have done quiet successfully!! We would like to open another business totally different from the hospitality industry, but will be run by the same cc. We have all what is required for the current 'project'. Would u consider giving a grant for the new project?

I have a business that employ 7 staff on part time basis. the business turnover is +-R100000-00, do we qualify for the grant. The money is invested back to business as the business has grown to a more recognisable business. The business is slow but there is potential grow to a big business, little bit of funding the dream can be realized.
Unfortunately we can't help at this stage.
The qualifying criteria is as follows.
Turnover must be between R250 000 and R35M per annunm
Your business must be at least 50.1% Black owned
Financial statements for at least One year
Valid SARS tax clearance certificate
Be managed by Black team
If you fail on any of the above you can't apply for the grant
